Surviving During the Holidays as an Introvert 2023 *Re-release*

Hello

I am taking the rest of 2024 and the beginning of January 2025 off 🚫🗣as far as new podcast episodes but unlike my break back in August (in which I completely stepped away due to a tumultuous 2024), 😳 I will be having some great re-releases 🎙coming your way.

Here's one of them!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello…thanks for listening! So I had an episode last year titled 'Coping during the holidays as an introvert and an HSP' but I put it out later than I anticipated. I have new deets and tips that I wanted to add and some that I wanted to omit from last year and I wanted it to be more consise as well as separated into three categories. I have tips on surviving during the holidays as an introvert with: Because introverts heavily dislike small talk. Rolling eye emoji. Lol! A: People-ing Heavily (Those work holiday parties and family gatherings that we don't have a choice 'not' to attend.) B: People-ing Mildly Those work holiday parties and family gatherings that we have a choice to attend but we want to 'show face' or support the friend or family member throwing it. (Hint: Ask to help out or find a quiet area or corner of the house or step outside for a 'breather' until you're at your capacity and/or you can leave with a 'clean slate'. C: If you're away from family (location wise) due to work for example but you wanted to be with your family and friends. There's Friendsgiving and hopefully a new term to start, Friends-mas anyone? ;-) D: Non-people-ing (Maybe you work in an extroverted job and this is your only day to yourself and you couldn't visit your family or you didn't want to make a visit this year!) This is YOUR day! You can order-in and stream a flick or go to eat at a Chinese restaurant for example. Take a load off and 'recharge'! After all you'll be back at your 'extroverted job' the day after Thanksgiving or Xmas! I hope you enjoy this episode! ---------------------------- Show Notes and Mentions: Ep 36 Coping During the Holidays as an Introvert ----------------
Hello...thanks for listening!
This will be a Bonus episode as I want to wish Introverts a Happy World Introvert Day-JAN 2!
I found out later in life that I was/am an introvert and I am so grateful that I did! "Better late than never!"
One of my fave Dr. Maya Angelou quotes "When you know better, you do better."
Before this knowledge I never recharged and with that along with working in extroverted jobs and being a caretaker for fourteen years I had poor mental health and bouts with depression.
I name some of my fave resources that have helped me regarding introversion and I also name a lot of podcast episodes that I have in which I share my journey as well as tips and information that have helped me immensely. :)
This is an 'accessible' podcast! Here is the transcript via Castmagic! You can play this podcast directly from this link as well as access the transcript.
Coping During the Holidays as an Introvert, Empath and an HSP (Away from Family) 2022 *Re-release*
Hello lovelies! Thanks for listening!
I am taking the rest of 2024 and the beginning of January 2025 off 🚫🗣as far as new podcast episodes but unlike my break back in August (in which I completely stepped away due to a tumultuous 2024), 😳 I will be having some great re-releases 🎙coming your way.
Here's one of them!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This was my original holiday podcast episode for introverts, Empaths and HSP’s back in 2022 as far as how to cope (both away from family and if you’re with family or visiting family).

Looking back at this episode, I’m noticing that a lot of my tips are the same as this years (2024) if you’re visiting family.

I hope you enjoy this episode and that it helps you if you’re an introvert, an empath and/or an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below are the show notes from the original episode with more details on it. :) Hello...thanks for listening! Didn't mean for this one to be this long but it is what it is! You can listen to bits at a time if you'd like...it's a podcast after all. ;-) Whether you're with family and friends or whether you're not, it is a 'trying' time for introverts, empaths and/or HSP's during the holidays. If you're alone and are homesick I suggest:
1. Making phone calls to loved ones. 2. Doing a Zoom call with loved ones. 3. Joining a Meetup.com event or organizing one to your liking and inviting other members to join you. 4. Hey Vina app! (An app for women to make friends by planning events and gatherings in the same or neighboring city!). If you're visiting family and friends during the holidays I suggest: 1. Renting a hotel or an Airbnb so that you have your own space and can recharge whenever you want/need.  2. Politely declining an invitation to stay in the same house/space/area as everyone else with the exception of you having your own space/room to yourself.  In the end YOU know your capacity and as long as you follow your instincts you'll be good. And it's your right to say "No" and to respectfully and politely decline an invitation if you're not feeling it either. It doesn't mean that you're ungrateful because you politely and respectfully decline. ;-) If this episode was of value to you, please subscribe and follow so you don’t miss an episode! And if you would be so kind as to rate (you can rate on Apple and on Spotify!).
Thanks in advance!
Cheers to speaking up and for making your voice heard! Sincerely, Elizabeth  https://www.westelizabeth.com/podcast
Ep 126 How to Survive as an Introvert During the Holidays (Visiting Family)
Ep 126 How to Survive as an Introvert During the Holidays (Visiting Family)
Hello lovelies! Thanks for listening! In this episode I will talk about how to survive during the holidays 🎄🎁🎉as an introvert and with family. For introverts, the holidays can be difficult whether you’re physically with family or not. This episode has tips on when you’re *physically with family and when you’re visiting from out of town. Some tips are: 1. To stay at a hotel or an Airbnb. 🏨 2. To take off more days from your day job so that you can have ‘buffer’ days (to get acclimated before and after your trip). 3. To stay with family and friends no more than 3-4 days (if you can’t afford to get a hotel or an Airbnb). 🏨 4. Arriving at the holiday party/gathering/event early and leaving early (before it gets too crowded!). 😱 5. Planning 1-1’s or small group gatherings with your close family members and friends. 6. Having your ‘me time’ and stepping away whether it’s going for a run 🏃🏾‍♀️ or a walk🚶🏽‍♀️, taking a dance or fitness class 💃🏽 , watching a movie by yourself 🍿or going holiday shopping by yourself 🛍. (The key is to step away and to do an activity by yourself so that you can recharge.) 7. Saying “no” or “I can’t make it” to any holiday group gatherings that you do not want to attend or are too tired to attend. 8. Not apologizing for saying "No" or explaining why you can't or don't wanna attend. 9. That "No" is a complete sentence. Podcast Episodes Mentioned: 1. Ep 36 Coping During the Holidays as an Introvert, Empath and an HSP. 2. Ep 75 Surviving During the Holidays as an Introvert 2023. 3. “We can do hard things” by Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach and Amanda Doyle. 🎙If this or any of my podcast episodes have helped you in any way -- Would you be so kind to give me a 5 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review? >>> To do a review on: 🍎 Apple >>> Click here >>> https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/im-speaking-with-elizabeth-west/id1589007063 and Scroll to the bottom to Ratings & Reviews. Ep 125 Onward + Upward
Ep 125 Onward + Upward
Hello lovelies! Thanks for listening!
How are you doing?
How are y’all doing?
The US Election 🇺🇸 has put me and most of the country (and the world really) through a roller coaster 🎢 of emotions and feeling stressed AF.
Speaking for myself...I’ve went to from a state of shock 😳 to down 😔 to frustrated 😣 to neutral and stoic 🫥 to now feeling “okay” 👌🏽.
And dusting myself off and ready to go ‘onward’ and ‘upward’. ⬆️
Ready to contribute and to do what I can to help as much as I can in any and every way within my community and building a close-knit true friend community also. 👯‍♀️
I had a friend of mine recently that I vented to that said, “it’s okay to feel hopeful, she was too” and that it’s not a “bad thing” or a “waste of time” ever.
I was thinking the past week and in the middle of feeling down I remembered that half the country voted for VP Harris! 🥳
Right now as I check the numbers (as the state of California is still counting ballots due to their very close house races) the difference is around 3 million votes.
Why am I pointing this out?
Because it reminds me that so, so many people *did vote for VP Harris! ☺️
There are some podcasts that have helped me in getting through it and with positive words on what we *can do despite who will become president.
The links are below! :))
I hope that they help you as much as they’re helping me. :)
Let’s feel our feelings, lean on our communities and as soon as we feel ready, let’s get back to it and go ‘onward and upward’!
I hope you enjoy this podcast episode.
Ep 124 What the Eff Just Happened…Again?!
Ep 124 What the Eff Just Happened…Again?!
Hello Lovies! Thanks for listening!
I’m in the US and… What the eff just happened?!
I am disappointed and devastated and confused. 😖
I’m not looking forward to having 4 more years of toxicity and divisiveness. ☠️
There’s a saying “united we stand divided we fall”. It feels like we’re falling right now unfortunately.
OMGosh.
This is where we need to lean on each other for support and strength.
And I second what a lot of people online have been saying which is…self-care and self-love is of the utmost importance right now.
And self-care can be a form of activism!
This, as well as asking for support is what we need right now. I know I do. 🥺
Please take care of yourselves right now and I will strive to do the same. ❤️‍🩹
And the next day (or when we feel strong enough), let’s dust ourselves off and get back to it. 🤝.
Ep 123 Resting is Absolutely Imperative for Introverts
Ep 123 Resting is Absolutely Imperative for Introverts
Hello lovelies! Thanks for listening! Rest and Recharging 😴 are absolutely imperative especially if you’re an introvert, even more so if you’re additionally a highly sensitive person and even more so if you’re additionally an empath. 😲 Why? Because we get depleted and drained 🫗much faster than others who are not these same traits. Why? For example…. Because introverts we need alone time to recharge. 🚶🏽‍♀️Think of it like a cell phone battery… we don’t need to recharge all day every day, just when our batteries are low or ‘in the red’ (just like a cell phone). 🪫 Most jobs are “extroverted”. For example, we’re around a lot of people all day, or we’re talking to many people all day, every day.🗣😳 An extrovert gets fueled 🔋by being around many people, introverts are the opposite. 🪫 And HSP’s we get even more drained 🫗 because our sensitivities are x 1000 😲 compared to those that are not an HSP so let's think about this for a moment...🤔 We sense everything around us (sights 👀, smells🤧, sounds 🙉, feels 🥹, x 1000) so if you’re an HSP like me you/we get drained faster 🫗 since we’re more sensitive to everything that’s around us all.of.the.time. 😨 We can’t turn it off and be like “self, don’t notice things for 5 minutes, will ya?” And we’ll not notice anything. We’re born like this, + we can’t ‘turn it off’ 📴. If you’re also an Empath because word has it that all Empaths are HSP’s but not all HSP’s are necessarily Empaths. The word empath is short for empathy. ❤️‍🩹 I mentioned above that HSP’s sense things around us x1000 if you’re an empath you’re also an HSP so you’re sensing everything x 1000 also, and in addition you’re having empathy (feeling) the energy around you too. 😵‍💫🥹 If someone is having a bad day or they’re sad or down :(, we’ll usually pick on this as soon as we enter the room with them or speak to them. If there’s tension, we can sense that and if someone is stressed or frantic we’ll feel that too.😳 Now that I know I’m an Empath if I’m stressed or down and I’m not sure why, I have to ask myself if it’s ‘mine’ or not. 🧐 Because it can feel like it’s ours when it’s not. That’s how deep feeling we are. 😲 So…Since we feel all of these “feels” ❤️‍🩹and our senses are x 1000 this is why we get drained and depleted much faster 🫗 and much more often than those that are not these traits and this is why we need to fill our cups even more so 🥛 and why it’s that much more imperative for us to do so. Iyanla Vanzant quote: “What’s in our cups is for us, what’s in the saucer (or the overflow), is for others. Ep 121 What Depletes You? 🪫| Welcome to the Season of Self-Discovery! 🧐
Hello lovelies! Thanks for listening! What depletes you? Or what drains you? 🪫 Me? Negative and pushy people for one... Also... large group gatherings putting myself last making *decisions using my brain as a 'calendar' or a 'notepad' to remember everything on rushing… these all drain & deplete the eff out of me. 😞 Let’s stop (or start to stop) 🛑 doing what depletes us y’all. 🫗 Starting is the most important thing and we all gotta start somewhere, right? Ep 120 What Fuels You? 🔋| Welcome to the Season of Self-Discovery!
Hello lovies! Thanks for listening!
What fuels you? ⛽️
Or what energizes you? 🔋
Me?
It’s taking walks 🚶🏽‍♀️ and being outdoors. 🌤
It’s having 1-1 and small group meetings with good friends 👯 and close family.
It’s listening to podcasts 🎧 and having slow mornings ☕️ 🍽.
Whatever fuels us goes hand-in-hand with what ‘fills our cups’ 🍶and what we love 🥰.
Let’s do more of what we love y’all.
Remember the Iyanla Vanzant quote: “What’s in our cups 🥛is for us, what’s in the saucer 🍵 (or the overflow) is for everyone else”. ☺️ I hope you enjoy this episode!
Ep 119 What I *Didn’t Know Was Hurting Me 😔 | Actually…Welcome to the Season of Self-Discovery! 🧐
Ep 119 What I *Didn’t Know Was Hurting Me 😔 | Actually…Welcome to the Season of Self-Discovery! 🧐
Hi lovelies! Thanks for listening! Actually…Welcome to the Season of Self Discovery! 💡 This title was my original podcast episode title and anyhoo, long story short here we are back at the original title. 🤓 What I *didn’t know was hurting me y’all, and due to my unawareness, I didn’t know that I needed to not be so dang hard on myself all of the time 😖 as well as self-loathing (the exact opposite of self-love) that I’d been doing all of my life. 😞 I even had some of my supervisors at work tell me that I was being too hard on myself! 😳 And the things I would say to myself, never in a million years would I ever dream of saying it to a friend or a loved one. 😔 Little did I know that I needed to recharge, fill my cup, 🥛and take better self-care (and even more so than the normal person) since I had discovered that I’m an introvert AND an HSP (short for highly sensitive person). I also discovered at this time that those two traits tied in together. I thought they were completely separate! Wha?!? 😲😲😲 Shut the front door! 🚪 By me rarely to never recharging and always putting myself last, it led me to poor mental health and several bouts with depression. 😞 If I didn’t love myself and put myself first how could I expect others to? I wanna help others who are living a life of never putting themselves first and who believe the lie that 'self-care is being selfish'. (It is quite the opposite in fact!) And those that do have an inkling that they’re an introvert or more introverted (because we’re all extroverted AND introverted), that there’s nothing wrong with needing alone time, needing time to recharge and that we don’t need to explain ourselves or apologize for it. And that this is also a part of self-love. 🥰 🎙If this or any of my podcast episodes have helped you in any way -- Would you be so kind to give me a 5 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review? >>> To do a review on: 🍎 Apple >>> Click here >>> https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/im-speaking-with-elizabeth-west/id1589007063 and Scroll to the bottom to Ratings & Reviews. Ep 118 Welcome to the Fall 🍁 of Unawareness
Ep 118 Welcome to the Fall 🍁 of Unawareness
Hello lovelies! Thank you for listening! Get it? 😉 The Fall 🍂 of Unawareness? For the most of my life, what I didn’t know was hurting me. 😖 I found out in the last couple of years that I am in fact an introvert and an HSP (highly sensitive person) and also an empath oh! And that I’m a 🕹Manifesting-Generator in Human Design, that I’m a neurodivergent (I have ADHD) 🧩 and that my Chronotype is a dolphin🐬 >>> which is that I’m a night owl and my peak time of working is in the early afternoons. When I started to find all of these characteristics out about myself and I started to work for vs against myself, I started to love myself vs kick myself and I started to live a more fulfilling life for myself. When I found all of this out, my gut said, “you have to help others with this information, especially those that were in your shoes”! ..."Those that aren’t living their best lives, that are putting themselves last and are trying make everyone else around them happy with the cost of their own happiness". "And those that do know that they’re an introvert for example, to help with knowledge of what this trait means". "That we’re all both extroverted AND introverted and that the only difference between an extrovert and an introvert is in how we recharge". "That we don’t need to apologize for wanting to be alone, that celebrities like Oprah are introverts and that there is nothing wrong it". In fact, those that are trying to make us extroverts or more ‘extroverted’, how we can say to them that we *all need alone time as well, including extroverts. To stop disrespecting who we are, to stop trying to change us and to literally “leave us alone” and unless they want us to try to change them to being an introvert don’t try to change us in being an extrovert. 😤 🎙If this or any of my podcast episodes have helped you in any way -- Would you be so kind to give me a 5 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review? >>> To do a review on: 🍎 Apple >>> Click here >>> https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/im-speaking-with-elizabeth-west/id1589007063 and Scroll to the bottom to Ratings & Reviews. Ep 117 Playing Big(ger)~(A Conversational Episode)
Hello lovely! Thanks for listening! I have always been a perfectionist, a people pleaser, I’ve been (and am) terrified of rejection, judgement and most of all ‘failure’ eek! 😳😵😲 And this has all kept (and is keeping me) small. Sure, I’ve done some things in life (that to others) have probably looked like I wasn’t playing small but for the most, if not all of my life, (I know deep down) that I was 'dimming my light' and definitely keeping myself small. 😔 I’m looking to put myself out there in general ‘biz wise’ as I’ll get all up in my head, get overwhelmed and end up not doing anything altogether. 😣 Hello ‘analysis paralysis’. So frustrating. 😖 Speaking of putting myself out there, I’m working on some offers in the online biz world to help introverts, Empaths and highly sensitive people to go from selfless to self-love and from depleted 🫠 to dynamic ✨. My first offer will only be $1.00! Why am I so excited for this offer even though it’s only $1.00? Because I'm finally putting an offer out.  Some kind of offer vs no offer at all and I am giddy as AH! It will be my 5️⃣ Fave Tips to Conserve Energy as an Introvert, an Empath and a Highly Sensitive Person because we are so, so giving that we pour from an empty cup 🪫😔 and we don’t take the time to refill our cups in the process.🔋🙂 Hello exhaustion, resentment and downright depression. 😳😒😞 Interested in this offer? Ep 116 I’m Back! | Money Blocks | No More Playing Small
Hello lovelies! Thanks for listening! I am back! Boy has it been an interesting time off. 🤔 I started with a week off from the day job which was nice. It wasn’t a really time off as I had other pressures to deal with and being a highly sensitive person, any and all ‘pressures’ impact us that much more. 😳 What did I do? I caught up with friends, I watched the Olympics (I ❤️ the Olympics!), I rested mentally, and I thought about next steps 'life wise' and 'biz wise'. I also asked for help and support from friends as something had popped up that took me by surprise. Asking for help really is an act of self-love. 🥰 I felt so supported and that I wasn’t alone in this situation. ☺️ I also took Michelle Rohr’s 30 Day Abundance Adventure course which is really clicking for me. 🥰 Do y’all have money blocks? 💸🚫 We all have some form of them whether we grew up poor or not. I also am looking to putting myself out there and to not play small anymore 😣— more on this on future podcast episodes. 🤓 Michelle Rohr’s website is www.secretowlsociety.com. ‘Say Yes to Desire’ is her community with live Zoom types of calls every month. 🥰 ‘The Abundance Adventure’ is her program that talks about letting our money work for us vs the other way around. 💸 = More 💸💸
Like putting away some money (you can start with $1.00) into a www.Vanguard.com account and it just being there, it accrues more money just by fricken sitting there!
 Ep 114 Asking For Help Is A Part of Self-love | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E7
Ep 114 Asking For Help Is A Part of Self-love | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E7
Hello lovie! Thanks for listening! Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! 🌞🥰 This is the 7th and last episode in this series! Also, I will be taking a break in August so the next new episode (and season 2) will start in September of 2024! Asking for help is a part of self-love. But why do we as women, we as a society and especially Americans, why do we hate asking for it? 🤔 It’s due to a lot of things… One reason is because we don’t wanna look weak or because we as a society are taught things like “push through”, “get it done” and “no pain, no gain”. 💪🏽🫤 It’s funny because it’s human nature and second nature for us to wanna help others. We genuinely ‘like’ to help others. For example asking someone for directions 🗺 to a place. (Even in this age of smart phones 📱 and online maps.) Nothing can beat a physical map or a person giving you directions in-person. And it’s a win-win! 🏆 The person gets help with directions and you feel good about helping someone! 🙌🏽 It’s why a lot of us love to volunteer! 🥰 We get those feel good endorphins when we do and those that we’re helping are also happy about it. ☺️ The bottom line is…asking for help is a part of self-love. When we don’t ask for help we ‘stop’ others blessings upon us, we make others feel unnecessary and unwanted and we can look ungrateful too. Not to mention the anxiety and extra stress that we put on ourselves in addition! It’s a lose-lose. I talk more about this on my newsletter or my ‘love letters’ 💌 as I like to call them). 😉 Wanna get my newsletter? 📰 Here’s the link to join the list! —> www.westelizabeth.com/newsletter. Ep 113 Making Things Easier | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E6
Ep 113 Making Things Easier | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E6
Hello lovely! Thanks for listening!
Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! 🌞🥰
In this episode I speak about how I make things easier.
For example, pre-cooking and pre-packing my lunch meals for the week (like making a big pot of spaghetti 🍝) and putting it into 5 containers so lunch is packed for the week!
All I gotta do is ‘grab & go’ in the morning!
Something else that I do is pick out my work attire (from head to toe) for the week or the next few days.
This way in the morning I don’t have to think about what I’m gonna wear and what goes with what. And I can just (you guessed it), grab & go’ with my clothes for the day for that workweek!
💞My self-love ‘supplement’ for this episode is: Glennon Doyle’s podcast called “We Can Do Hard Things”. Glennon Doyle (also the author of the amazing book 📖 , “Untamed”) hosts the show with her sister Amanda and her wife, soccer champion, 🏟 Abby Wambach.
They talk about things from Asking for help and how it’s bettering their lives to Amanda’s recent cancer scare and all of the feels that come along with it. 🧐:(
Ep 112 Focusing on Doing My Best vs Being Perfect | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E5
Hello lovely…thanks for listening! Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! 🌞🥰 In this episode I speak about how I started to take on this idea 💡of asking myself if I’ve ‘done my best’ instead of ‘how many tasks I have accomplished on my to-do list’ 📝 and in how changing this question ❓lowered and continues to lower my anxiety and stress to this day. 😌 We can’t do any better than our best y’all so whether we’ve accomplished only a couple of tasks on our ‘to-do’ list or 0️⃣ zero tasks, if the answer is ‘yes’ to “Did I do my best?” then my hope is that we can instead move-on and not continue to kick ourselves 😣for what we did ‘not’ get done on our to-do list. 😏 I talk more about this on my newsletter or my ‘love letters’ 💌 as I like to call them). 😉 Wanna get my newsletter? 🗞Here’s the link to join the list! —> www.westelizabeth.com/newsletter. Ep 111 “Second Guessing Yourself is Self-Sabotage” | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E4
Ep 111 “Second Guessing Yourself is Self-Sabotage” | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E4
Hello lovely, thanks for listening!
Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! 🌞🥰
A friend of mine named Adrienne gave me this great quote which is “second guessing yourself is self-sabotage”. 😖
We were having dinner or lunch and I started to say something along the lines of “I shouldn’t have second guessed myself!” and she says to me “second guessing yourself is self-sabotage” and it was an ‘ah-ha’ moment for me. 😲
It’s really true.
When I’m at work for example and someone asks me a question…almost every time I’ll know the correct answer but more often than not, I’ll second guess myself and proceed to ask a colleague which will have the exact same answer almost word for word that I was gonna say.
So frustrating.
My colleague looks like a genius and I look like an idiot. It feels like that anyway. 😖
In this Summer of self-love let’s not second guess ourselves if we know in our gut what to do or say already.
Let’s listen to our inner child/our instincts/our gut and follow that instead.
I think it was on the Oprah show back when it was on regular television (back in the day) where she said, “if you keep ignoring that voice trying to guide you, eventually you won’t hear it or it will get more and more quiet until it goes away”.
I talk more about this on my newsletter or my ‘love letters’ 💌 as I like to call them). 😉
Ep 110 Independence Day to Whom? *Re-release*
Ep 110 Independence Day to Whom? *Re-release*
Hi lovely…thanks for listening!
This is a re-released episode from July 3, 2022. I originally titled it "Independence Day?" but later changed it to "Independence Day to Whom?"(Which was my original title.)
I ask this question because back in July 4, 1776 (when this later became the United States' 🇺🇸 Independence Day, it only included white men with property).
Let's think about this for a second…this would *exclude everyone else.
Friendly history reminder: In the US, White women were only able to vote in 1920 and white women couldn't open a bank account until 1974! WTF?!?
And we all know people of color couldn't vote until 1964! 😲🤬
It was not that long ago, y'all.
And a lot of these liberties 🗽are slowly but surely getting rolled back sad to say. 🫤Roe v. Wade and civil rights to name a couple.
Which brings me to this…in the US 🇺🇸we need to Vote 🗳 in the upcoming election on November 5, 2024.
I can't believe it's coming up so fast.
We need to vote 🗳 up and down the ticket and leave no stone ‘unturned’.
And we need to be aware of who our representatives are.
We need to do homework too. 📑
We are all busy and our lives keep getting busier but this isn't the time for us to "sleep on this". 😴
In the same amount of time that it takes for us to share or forward a joke or a meme we can share information about our democracy and how fragile it is right now.
For more info click on www.vote.gov
I talk more about this on my newsletter or my ‘love letters’ 💌 as I like to call them). 😉
Ep 109 Planning “Me Time” Dates | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E3
Ep 109 Planning “Me Time” Dates | Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! S1 E3
Hello lovely! Thanks for listening!
Welcome to the Summer of Self-love! 🌞 🥰 In this episode I talk about how I’m loving planning “me time” dates with myself. 🥰
I remember years ago, a friend of mine (she was like an older sister and mentor really), she advised me to go to places and to do things by myself and that it’s very empowering (for women especially) to do these things.
She talked about things like taking solo trips, 🏖 taking myself out to dinner 🍱 and even to the movies! 🍿
At this time (around 10-15) years ago, this was unheard of for me. 😲
I didn’t wanna look like a "loser" and I didn’t want people giving me the look of pity like I don’t have any friends to go with. Haha!
Which brings me to my recent podcast episode 105 titled “What others think of me is none of my business”. 😏
What are ‘me time’ dates?
Anything and everything that you love to do and it’s exactly what you wanna do, it makes you feel cozy and it gives you all of the feels.
(Hint: And others’ thoughts or judgements aren’t allowed, just yours.) 😉
It should be something that you look forward to, that you feel giddy and excited about and it ‘fills your cup’! 🥛
I talk more about this on my newsletter or my ‘love letters’ 💌 as I like to call them). 😉
Ep 106 Self-care Is Not Self-ish
Ep 106 Self-care Is Not Self-ish
Hi lovely! Thanks for listening! I have to remind myself of this every so often…that self-care isn’t self-ish. It’s tough as hell sometimes isn’t it? We don’t wanna be seen as ‘mean’ or ‘rude’ or ‘selfish’ for goodness sakes. We don’t wanna be seen as excluding others either but when you think about it we’re actually excluding ourselves. The Tonya Dalton quote “when you say yes to someone else, you say ‘no’ to yourself”. This is so true. So a good giveaway to see if you’re feeling disingenuous is if you’re in fact you’re saying no to yourself and if the answer is yes then you gotta reevaluate what you’re doing because ‘self-care is not self-ish’. And another great quote by Iyanla Vanzant is “what’s in our cups is for us, what’s overflowing (in the saucer) is for everyone else”. I talk more about this on my newsletters or my ‘love letters’ (as I like to call them). ;) Wanna get my newsletters? Here’s the link to join the list! —> www.westelizabeth.com/newsletter. Ep 105 “What Others Think Of Me Is None Of My Business”
Ep 105 “What Others Think Of Me Is None Of My Business”
Hi lovely! Thanks for listening! “What Others Think Of Me Is None Of My Business” — quote by Robert Kiyosaki. When I first heard this quote, I immediately fell in love with it. :) And everyone who I’ve mentioned it to also falls in love with it and starts to use it when they’re ‘in their head’. It’s interesting because none of us will really know what others truly think of us by ‘imagining’ what we think they ‘may’ think of us. But yet we always assume the worst (most times) on what others may think of us don’t we? I hope this quote helps you as much as it has helped me. Whenever I’m ‘in my head’ I think about this quote and it immediately helps to get me out of my head. ;) We’re our worst critics and we’ll always care what others think of us (or what we think they think of us) until we pass I’m sure but whenever you’re/we’re going down that ‘negative rabbit hole’ I suggest remembering this quote. :) I talk more about this on my newsletters or my ‘love letters’ (as I like to call them). ;) Wanna get my newsletters? Ep 104 Learning to Reward Myself
Ep 104 Learning to Reward Myself
Hello lovely! Thanks for listening! Are you an ‘over achiever’? Do you reward yourself or give yourself a pat on the back for what you’ve accomplished? The most of us don’t. And if you’re a woman and/or a neurodivergent and have ADHD we’re always ‘on to the next’ aren’t we? I am rewarding myself right now but it’s not easy. For the most of my life I didn’t reward myself ever or even know where to start. (And it’s different for everyone.) Hint. It’s usually what fills our cups and is hand and hand with self-care. ;) I’m learning to reward myself more and give myself a pat on the back for what I *have accomplished instead of thinking “what’s next?”. ;) We’re all works in progress y’all and I’m sure I’ll/we’ll always have to remind myself/ourselves of this until I/we pass. But at least we can start small and start today. :) I hope this episode helps you in reminding yourself to also reward yourself for what you’ve accomplished and to relish more in giving yourself a pat on the back as well. :) I talk more about this on my newsletters or my ‘love letters’ (as I like to call them). ;) Wanna get my newsletters? Ep 103 My Day Job Is My Angel Investor for my Side Hustle
Hello lovely! Thanks for listening! This episode is short and sweet and is something that I needed to hear myself right now. :) From time to time I get impatient with not being my own boss already, being self-employed and being a Content Creator and Podcaster full-time. I have to remind myself that my day job is an Angel investor for my side hustle. It’s allowing me to not only have a roof over my head and food to eat but to also pay for things like a website and podcast tools and software for example. I hope this helps you if you’re also getting impatient with not being where you want to be already. ;-) I hope you enjoy this episode and that it has helped you in any way. Sincerely, Elizabeth
Ep 102 It’s Okay To Change Your Mind
Ep 102 It’s Okay To Change Your Mind
Hello lovely! Thanks for listening! In this episode I speak about how “it’s okay to change your mind”. I heard Oprah say this on her television show back in the day and I remember everyone in the audience gasping as was I. Even at my young age back then I didn’t know that I could change my mind! Crazy, right? Well we can. :) Recently I felt lost because I thought ‘this is it’ I can “kick-back” now when my instincts were like “oh no…you can’t stay here long, this is not the place for you”. After being shell shocked, confused and then a little depressed… I slept on it and I realized that “it is okay for me to change my mind.”. (You may hear some sounds in the background as I’m outside.) I’m focusing on the ‘done, not perfect’ approach. ;) I hope you enjoy this episode and that it helps you to realize the same…that “it’s okay to change your/our minds”. ;) Sincerely, Elizabeth
Ep 101 Gratitude Made All the Difference!
Ep 101 Gratitude Made All the Difference!
Hi lovely! Thanks for listening! In this episode I talk a lot about the ups and downs that I’ve been having recently and how sometimes I can be quick to think about ‘what I don’t have’ and ‘what I can’t do’ vs ‘what I do have’ and ‘what I can do’. I was starting to go down a ‘negative rabbit hole’ when I realized all that I have which is a lot! 1. My health 2. A Roof over my head 3. Food to eat 4. A computer 5. A cell phone. Boy did my mood change from going down a ‘negative rabbit hole’ to gratitude! I hope this episode helps you if you’re going through a ‘downward spiral’ of thoughts and/or that you catch yourself about to go through a ‘downward spiral’ of thoughts because we all have something or someone to be grateful for at all times don’t we? ;-) Sincerely, Elizabeth
Ep 100 Being an HSP And Our Nervous Systems
Ep 100 Being an HSP And Our Nervous Systems
Heyo! Thanks for listening! In this episode I speak about how if you’re an Empath and/or an HSP (highly sensitive person) that our nervous systems are more ‘sensitive’ and we get more ‘shocks’ to our nervous systems when we’re going through major life changes like (moving, getting a new job, getting married and/or having a baby). And with this said we get drained more and due to this we need to recharge even more and take even more self-care. The irony is that we (Empaths and HSP’s) usually tend to put ourselves last vs first during these major life changes. I just did this with a major life change recently. :-/ I also I speak about how ‘time pressures’ will drain us and how giving ourselves ‘wiggle room’ and more grace will help our nervous systems and us to take self-care and to recharge. I hope you enjoy this episode! Sincerely, Elizabeth
Ep 99 I’m Putting Myself Last Again! :(
Ep 99 I’m Putting Myself Last Again! :(
Heyo! Thanks for listening! In this episode I speak about putting myself last yet again! :( I did this for fourteen years when I was a caretaker but I’ll be damned if I do this again. I’ve had a lot of changes recently and I’ve been feeling discombobulated (for lack of a better word) and with this I’ve slowly but surely been going back to how I was the most of my life which is self-less and putting myself last all.the.time. The difference this time is that I have self-awareness and I’m catching myself faster for having these feelings of “I need to recharge” and “I need some me time”. I hope you enjoy this episode and that it helps you especially if you’re having some of these same thoughts and feelings. Sincerely, Elizabeth
Ep 98 Am I Being a Hypocrite?
Ep 98 Am I Being a Hypocrite?
Heyo! Thanks for listening! In this episode I ask the question of “Am I Being a Hypocrite?” and the answer is Yes. As far as taking self-care and self-love, not doing what lights me up and letting an energy drainer have the last word when I knew better. I am getting back to some sense of normalcy and am slowly but surely (as with any “season” of life) getting back to what makes all of the difference in the world for me which is self-care and self-love. :) I hope you enjoy this episode. Sincerely, Elizabeth
Ep 97 Asking the Wrong People For Help
Ep 97 Asking the Wrong People For Help
Heyo! Thanks for listening! First off, kudos to you if you’re asking for help in the first place! In this episode I speak about asking the right Vs the wrong people for help. The main differences are that the right people will make you feel supported, cared for, loved and appreciated. And if they make you feel the opposite of that or dumb, stupid, ‘less than’ or inferior or that you owe them then chances are that they are the wrong person to ask for help. I hope you enjoy this episode. Cheers to speaking up and for making your voice heard! Sincerely, Elizabeth
Ep 93 The ‘Gift’ of Being Present
Thanks for listening! Being Present really is a gift isn’t it? It seems that I’m always either thinking in the past or thinking of the future but rarely ever present. I feel like a lot of society is the same way. In my continuous journey for self-care and self-love I’m trying to stay present as that’s when I’m noticing that I’m usually at my happiest. Ep 91: Navigating Self-Criticism to Embrace Self-Love
Ep 91: Navigating Self-Criticism to Embrace Self-Love
Thanks for listening!
In this episode I speak about how I've been hard on myself for my whole life, since I was a kid and some things that I do now that help me to not be so hard on myself.
When I had my breakdown back in 2020, and I discovered the podcast "The HSP Podcast by Julie Bjelland", I learned that it's the absolute worst for sensitives and highly sensitive people to be hard on ourselves.
Don't get me wrong, we're all works in progress and it's a "constant battle" and it's easier said than done.
I hope you enjoy this episode. :)
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
Ep 88 Reflecting on Pain: A Journey to Self-Love
Ep 88 Reflecting on Pain: A Journey to Self-Love
Thanks for listening!
In this episode I'm asking 'What Is This Pain Trying to Teach Me?'
Recently I've had some excruciating back pain and after all of the "woe is me" feels, I had to have gratitude and faith that it was teaching me something.
Among many things it was teaching me about self-care and self-love and asking for help in bigger ways.
I hope you enjoy this episode.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
Ep 87 Thank You Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Ep 87 Thank You Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Hello...thanks for listening!
Join my Love Letters (Newsletter) here! (Where I send words of encouragement, tips, deals and freebies to you before anyone else!) I recorded this episode before the US's Martin Luther King Jr. holiday which was on Monday, January 15, 2024 but due to perfectionism and urgent life matters am just able to publish/release it.
It will come out during Black History Month (the month of February) in the US so it's still fitting for me to publish it now. :)
I have so many freedoms due to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Freedom Fighters and everyone else who helped to get the Civil Rights Act in 1964 to pass as well as the Voting Rights Act to pass in 1965.
In this episode I am thanking Dr. Reverand Martin Luther King Jr., and everyone who helped to make my freedoms possible today!
I hope you enjoy this episode and learn something new (as I did) when I did research to record this episode.
Elizabeth
Ep 85 I'm Not Supposed To Be Here
Ep 85 I'm Not Supposed To Be Here
Hello...thanks for listening!
From here on out I'll be putting more of the "juicy" parts of my Show Notes into my Love Letters (Newsletter). If you haven't signed up yet, here's the link!
I'm not supposed to be here...there were many times in my life where I've felt a 'nudge' of "I'm not supposed to be here".
Right now I'm speaking about a job.
Whether it's a day job or a relationship, a friendship or even your current residence, when we get that 'nudge' and it's a whisper, let's not let it get to the 'screaming' inner voice as Oprah says... "listen to the whisper".
Life is too short to feel 'uninvited', or 'ignored', or 'unappreciated'. Let's listen from the beginning to that whisper and start to make moves right away.
I talk more about this inner knowing and nudges on this episode.
I hope you enjoy it. :)
